PIATA AUTONOMA CLUJ – 1st edition - DONE!

We all finished cooking sometime around 7-8 am. At 10:30-11 we were at Casa Tranzit, preparing for the first edition of PAC. Tired eyes and smiling faces. Everything seemed good and so it was. 

 

Most of the ingredients we got were from the local markets, our homes or donations. So we had shit-loads of cabbage and potatoes. Most of the food was cooked in two places, so the two crews were up for an adventure. They cooked 500 veggie balls (!!!!!), cabbage salad, cabbage stew and a carrot salad (all delicious). We cooked potato soup and stew + some oatmeal cookies/power bars. Friends from all over the country were in the cat house peeling and cutting potatoes, stirring, chopping, getting burned. Our kitchen is super small...the fire alarm went on, minutes after we finished the soup. Deja-vu. Again, a bunch of panicked people gathered around the alarm, wondering...WILL THIS NOTIFY THE FIRE DEPARTAMENT?!?!?! No. It didn't. It stopped after we opened some windows. CO2.

 At the spot, stuffed baked apples arrived - deliciousness ness, some bake potatoes too, jars of jelly or bread spread and more delicious vegan foods. 

I don't even know what to say about the event... everything went so smoothly, there's nothing I can really complain about. People brought clothes, books, toys, magazines, all kinds of stuff to the free shop. The skill sharing board had some cool stuff written on it, good music was playing, hot tea and coffee, two workshops happened: one on photography and one on human rights - for the homeless people so that they can handle situation of police abuse. By the end of the day, all the food was gone and the clothes that remained were gathered and will be donated to the people that live in the slums of Cluj Napoca. 

We are looking forward to do this again hoping to create a collective in which, at least for one day, everything is free. Leaving behind consumerism and money, learning new stuff to help us deal with life in this world in which everything revolves around money. We need to think and cooperate to find a solution for all our daily problems. From food, to cat food, to clothing and creating your own stuff.

Toţi am terminat de gătit pe la 7-8 dimineaţa şi pe la 10:30-11 eram deja la Casa Tranzit, pregătiţi pentru prima ediţie PAC. Peste tot ochi obosiţi şi zâmbete. Totul părea în regulă şi aşa a şi fost.

Majoritatea ingredientelor folosite au fost primite de la pieţele locale, donaţii sau de la noi de acasă. Aşadar am avut o grămadă de varză şi cartofi. Cea mai multă mâncare a fost gătită în două locuri, deci cele două colective au avut parte de o aventură. Ei au gătit 500 de chiftele de legume (!!!), salată şi mâncare de varză şi salată de morcov (toate delicioase). Noi am făcut supă şi tocană de cartofi şi ceva prăjiturele de ovăz. Prieteni de prin toată ţara au fost la casa pisicilor curăţând, tăind, amestecând. Bucătăria noastră este foarte mică...Alarma de incendiu a pornit de îndată ce am terminat supa. Deja vu. Din nou, un grup de oameni panicaţi stăteau în faţa alarmei întrebându-ne...ASTA O SĂ SUNE DIRECT LA POMPIERI?!?!?!? Nu. Nu s-a întâmplat aşa. Alarma s-a oprit după ce am aerisit un pic casa. CO2.

La Casa Tranzit, alţi oameni au mai adus nişte mere coapte minunate, cartofi copţi, borcane de zacuscă şi gem şi altele.

Nici nu ştiu ce să povestesc despre eveniment... totul a decurs foarte bine, nu am de ce să mă plâng. Oamenii au adus haine, cărţi, reviste, jucării, tot felul pentru free shop (schimbul de obiecte). Panoul pentru schimbul de servicii era plin de scris, a fost ceai şi cafea caldă şi au avut loc două ateliere – unul despre fotografie şi unul despre drepturile omului – pentru oamenii ce locuiesc pe străzi, pentru a se putea descurca mai bine în situaţiile de abuz al poliţiei. La sfârşitul zilei, toată mâncarea s-a terminat, iar hainele şi obiectele care au mai rămas au fost adunate şi urmează să fie donate oamenilor care trăiesc la groapa de gunoi din Cluj Napoca.

Abea aşteptăm să mai facem asta şi sperăm să creem un colectiv în care, măcar pentru o zi, totul să fie gratis. Să lăsăm în urmă consumerismul şi banii. Să învăţăm lucruri noi care să ne ajute să trăim în lumea asta în care totul se învârte în jurul banilor. Trebuie să ne gândim şi să cooperăm pentru a găsi soluţii pentru problemele zilnice. De la mâncare pentru noi şi pisici, la haine, la creearea propriilor noastre obiecte.

 

PIATA AUTONOMA CLUJ

Duminică, 16 decembrie 2012, între orele 12:00 - 19:00, vă așteptăm la Casa Tranzit pentru prima ediție a Pieței Autonome Cluj, un eveniment în care toată lumea este invitată să își aducă surplusul de haine sau obiecte pentru a pune bazele unui nou tip de orânduire economică, una care să nu presupună banii și profitul, ci folosirea liberă a produselor bazată pe necesitatea individuală și pe solidaritate socială.

Astfel, vom schimba/oferi obiecte, haine sau cunoștințe, după cum vom schimba/oferi serviciile prin intermediul cărora îi putem ajuta pe ceilalți. De asemenea, pentru oamenii nevoiași vom asigura o masă gătită după rețeta ”Hrană, nu Bombe”!, un eveniment internațional menit să atragă atenția asupra faptului că mâncarea este un drept al tuturor, indiferent de statutul social, și nu un privilegiu. Vom avea de asemenea ateliere în care putem învăța diverse lucruri utile - de la drepturi cetățenești până la croșetat sau cursuri introductive de fotografie.

Haideți să schimbăm modul în care consumăm și folosim obiectele. Nu uitați, prezența banilor NU este necesară și nici binevenită.

The first event of Piata Autonoma Cluj (P.A.C. // Autonomous Market Cluj) will take place Sunday, 16^th of December 2012, between 12am-7pm, at Casa Tranzit. Everyone is welcome to come and bring their surplus of clothes or objects to build the foundation of a different kind of economical system, one that doesn’t care for profit, nor money, but the the free use of goods based on individual necessity and social solidarity. 

 

We will give and exchange objects, clothes and knowlege, as well we will give or exchange skills that might help others. Also, there will be a Food Not Bombs action, an international event ment to focus our attention on the fact that food is a right for everyone, not a privilege, no matter the social status. There will also be workshops in which we can learn different usefull skills or tips – from civil rights to knitting or amateur photo courses. 

 

Let’s change the way we consume and use objects. Don’t forget! The presence of money is NOT vital, nor welcome!

BUY NOTHING DAY 2012

    The internet is now full of videos, pictures and puns regarding this year’s Black Friday. People running over each other, screaming, pushing, shoving, just to get their hands on cheaper stuff. I sit and watch while this Black Friday thing is slowly but surely taking over other cultures and countries. Such as Romania. We’re starting to have it here too. Either in a form of a week’s sales or just a day sale. Bottom line is: we’re getting the consumerist virus in us. The disease is spreading like any other epidemic.  After 23 years from the fall of Ceausescu’s regime, Romanians are now fully adapted to capitalism’s consumerist lifestyle. The urge to buy more stuff and own a collection of useless shit around the house is powerful and took over people’s minds. Owning stuff is more important than health. Happiness comes in the form of a new pair of shoes or a new gadget. If i had the money most people do, I’d be traveling all over the world, but they prefer to say in a house surrounded by their shiny shit and rot in their job-buy-eat-sleep routine.

    Today is buy nothing day! Everyday should be buy nothing day or at least buy-only-what-you-really-need-day. Try not to be a fool and fall into their trap. We’re bombarded with PR and sales techniques. It’s a war between corporations and the only ones that have something to lose is us. They only get richer and we are destined to stay “poor”. We live our lives through numbers. Prices, percentages, bills etc.  They managed to put a price on happiness. Don’t let yourselves be fooled by all their lies. You don’t need to consume their products to feel good. Rather than buying a new dress, take the opposite direction. Clean your wardrobe and whatever you don’t wear, give it away to people in need. Rather than buying a new, bigger, flatter tv, adopt a pet – it will keep you entertained. NEVER SHOP FOR PETS! People are making good money breeding animals and selling them for huge profits, while other freeze to death in the streets. It’s another capitalist miracle... Rather than buying all your food, try to grow some. Grow spices, grow onions, anything your living space can offer you. The food in our supermarkets are imported from all over the world, most of them are full of pesticides, herbicides  and are slowly killing us.

     Buy nothing day shouldn’t be just a day in the year in which we abstain from shopping, but a day to reflect on our habits and try to change our self destructive ways of being.
